Souk El Tayeb expands into a weekend cultural destination
Souk El Tayeb began as Beirut’s original farmers’ market, championing local producers, seasonal agriculture, and small-scale Lebanese food culture. Over the years it became a must-visit for those seeking fresh produce, pantry staples, and authentic regional flavors. Historically held on Saturdays, it has now grown into a broader weekend experience following its relocation from Mar Mikhael to the larger open space at Jisr el Wati – Tahwita.
Now open both Saturdays and Sundays, Souk El Tayeb is ideal for short stays and flexible itineraries. Saturday retains the traditional market format of fresh fruits and vegetables, mouneh, dairy, breads, and traditional seasonal foods, all sourced directly from farmers and producers.
A key new addition is Souk Café where visitors can enjoy Lebanese breakfast, light meals, coffee, and traditional desserts while watching the market unfold around them.
The experience has also diversified with Sunday programs, a part of an evolving “market plus” concept that integrates creative pop-ups, flea markets, crafts, and sustainability-focused stalls alongside food offerings.
