Laqlouq Through the Seasons: Exploring Majestic Mountains, Hidden Valleys, and Dreamy Ponds

Today, I come to you carrying a collection of stories and snapshots from my recent travels—journeys that have taken me through breathtaking landscapes and hidden gems since my last article on Dhour Choueir. After much contemplation, I have decided to share with you not just one adventure, but a series of unforgettable experiences in the heart of Laqlouq—a mountainous jewel that, despite its compact size, holds an astonishing diversity of natural wonders.

Laqlouq: A Seasonal Wonderland of Adventure

As is the case across all of Lebanon, you can’t help but stand in awe before the seamless harmony of nature’s masterpiece—an ever-changing canvas displayed within a mere 2.1 km². Laqlouq, a destination I have visited countless times over the past year, never ceases to amaze me. Whether hiking through its rugged trails or snowshoeing across its frost-kissed landscapes, every season brings a new adventure. My most recent visit was just two weeks ago—on the very first day the roads reopened exclusively for four-wheel drives, as a pristine blanket of ice had transformed the terrain into a winter wonderland.

A Scenic Winter Drive

I took the Byblos–Ehmej road to reach Laqlouq, where most of the chalets and houses lay nestled beneath a thick blanket of snow, their rooftops and surroundings immersed in a pristine white embrace. Meanwhile, children reveled in the magic of winter, their laughter echoing through the crisp mountain air as they played in the powdery snow.

Located 69 kilometers from Beirut and perched at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, Laqlouq falls within the Byblos district, making it one of Lebanon’s most breathtaking highland retreats.

A Timeless Oasis of Flowing Springs and Seasonal Beauty

The name "Laqlouq" carries multiple interpretations, one of which suggests it originates from the Arabic verb "laqlaq", referring to the continuous flow of its abundant, ever-rushing waters—a phenomenon you’ll soon discover. This mountain retreat is blessed with natural springs, crystal-clear ponds, and earthy water reservoirs that sustain its fertile lands through spring and summer, transforming it into a living oasis that evolves with the seasons.

Between golden fields and snow-draped landscapes, between icy chills and sunlit warmth, Laqlouq unveils some of Lebanon’s most breathtaking natural scenes. Its traditional houses and elegant villas blend seamlessly with lush greenery in winter and rolling white hills in summer, forming a mesmerizing masterpiece shaped by time and reimagined by the changing seasons—a view that never ceases to captivate.

A Dream Destination for Adventure Lovers

If you’re an adventure enthusiast, Lebanon’s rugged highlands will be your ultimate sanctuary—and Laqlouq holds a special place among these experiences. Whether you visit in winter or summer, its trails will lead you into a world of magic and wonder, where golden fields sway in harmony, clouds dance across the sky, and breathtaking landscapes captivate the soul.
