An unexpected ceasefire signaled a positive turn for sovereignty and stability—sparking optimism for a continued upswing in tourism and investments. In the spirit of the season, the country’s cities and towns rushed to deck themselves in dazzling holiday attire, greeting locals and visitors alike with festive cheer.

Renowned for its picturesque coast and vibrant nightlife, Batroun transformed into a genuine “Capitale de Noël” in December. “A Historic Trail of Light” illuminated the Old City, pairing traditional architecture with modern lighting displays. Wandering through narrow streets bathed in soft, colorful light created an atmosphere that felt both intimate and celebratory, perfectly capturing the joyful spirit of the holiday season. The Diaspora Village showcased its charming traditional architecture, a festive Christmas tree, and dazzling lights illuminating a host of dining options, while the surrounding streets buzzed with life and late-night revelry as at Cheers Cousin Mike.

Zgharta: Christmas by the Lake

Moving inland to Zgharta, I visited “Christmas by the Lake,” a festive tradition that brought holiday sparkle to the serene waterfront. The illuminated walkway, lined with stalls selling festive treats provided a welcoming backdrop for families and friends. Beirut Downtown: Urban Chic and Christmas Glitz

Beirut Downtown, always a hub of fashion and glamour, once again embraced the holiday spirit in December, featuring the familiar HOPE, LOVE, BEIRUT theme. High-end boutiques showcased ornate window displays and glimmering outdoor installations, mirroring last year’s festive flair. The atmosphere was electric, as shoppers mingled under magnificent canopies of lights while enjoying the bustling Christmas market. Surrounded by the city’s impressive architecture—ranging from heritage buildings to sleek contemporary structures—this area remained a testament to Beirut’s resilience and its readiness to welcome visitors once again.

Zahle: The Boulevard’s Holiday Brilliance

Zahle, nestled in the Bekaa Valley, transformed its main boulevard into a breathtaking winter wonderland, anchored by a towering Christmas tree and illuminated trees lining the streets. Families from across the region gathered to revel in the holiday festivities. Dhour El Shweir: A Launching Night of Cheer

Going back from Zahle, I made a stop in Dhour El Shweir in the Metn District for its official season-launching night. Known for its crisp air and welcoming community, this town pulled out all the stops to celebrate. The centerpiece was a grand Christmas tree set on the central roundabout facing the village’s church, where a local choir performed carols before the main event kicked off. Wandering further through the cobblestone streets felt akin to stepping into a storybook, as centuries of history merged seamlessly with contemporary festivity. I’ve visited Byblos many times, but on rainy nights, the charm was undeniable—raindrops sparkle across the narrow alleys and cobblestones, reflecting the festive lights in hues of gold, red, and green, adding to the city’s timeless magic.
